donate a shirt 450x523 Wildfire Tees

You don’t actually have to care about wildfire people these tees are that sexy.

All of our time, designs, and efforts are donated so that 100% of our proceeds go to support victims of Colorado wildfires through the following charitable organizations (50% to each):

Care and Share Food Bank (50%)

Colorado Red Cross (50%)

Both organizations have recently requested monetary support so they can prioritize and address the most pressing needs.  We’d like to help in a big way.

10 years of Civ II

civ2 450x366 10 years of Civ II

“This front line hasn’t moved in 1000 years…” (img by Lycerius)

This is truly amazing:

I’ve been playing the same game of Civ II for 10 years. Though long outdated, I grew fascinated with this particular game because by the time Civ III was released, I was already well into the distant future. I then thought that it might be interesting to see just how far into the future I could get and see what the ramifications would be. Naturally I play other games and have a life, but I often return to this game when I’m not doing anything and carry on. The results are as follows.

-The world is a hellish nightmare of suffering and devastation.

-There are 3 remaining super nations in the year 3991 A.D, each competing for the scant resources left on the planet after dozens of nuclear wars have rendered vast swaths of the world uninhabitable wastelands.

-The ice caps have melted over 20 times (somehow) due primarily to the many nuclear wars. As a result, every inch of land in the world that isn’t a mountain is inundated swamp land, useless to farming. Most of which is irradiated anyway. (more…)

Texting and walking hazardous to your wallet

No, this is totally safe. (img by David Sugden)

We’ve been over the texting thing. Texting and walkingoff a pier, texting and flying… it’s all bad because you can’t divide your attention very well.

“Sure I can,” you say. The news says you, and pretty much everyone else, can’t.

Ft. Lee, NJ agrees. And is fining “dangerous walkers” with jaywalking tickets. I think it’s a great idea, but the most ridiculous thing is how many tickets they’ve given out: 117 so far after a 1 month grace period in which they handed out pamphlets instead.

Get your head out of your phone and look around… not just because you won’t get fined or get creamed by a bread truck, but because you’re missing out on things that happen in the real world – simple things like beautiful people walking by or animals doing cute things or scenery or interaction with the humans who are actually around you.

Belgium agrees:

Science Reveals How Not to Spill Your Coffee When Walking

Coffee mugs call for intelligent design (img by Jay Chou)

@Live Science:

Ever wondered why it’s so hard to walk with a cup of coffee without spilling? It just so happens that the human stride has almost exactly the right frequency to drive the natural oscillations of coffee, when the fluid is in a typically sized coffee mug. New research shows that the properties of mugs, legs and liquid conspire to cause spills, most often at some point between your seventh and tenth step.

So says a pair of fluid physicists at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). They investigated the science of sloshing in a new study published in the journal Physical Review Letters E, and calculated the natural frequency at which coffee sloshes back and forth when held in mugs of a variety of sizes, from a dainty espresso cup to a cappuccino behemoth. They found that a normal human gait moves at nearly the same frequency, so each step amplifies the coffee’s heave-ho motion. Stumbling or changing pace — common occurrences when you’re low on caffeine — make matters worse by causing chaos in your cup, increasing the chance of a splash over the rim. (more…)

Don’t text and anything. Ever.

Swype has literally changed my life. (img by Jeff Wise)

Confused Jetstar pilots forgot to lower the wheels and had to abort a landing in Singapore just 150 metres above the ground, after the captain became distracted by his mobile phone, an investigation has found.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau report on the May 27, 2010 incident on Flight JQ57, from Darwin to Singapore, reconstructed a scene of cockpit chaos.

The captain, of more than 13,000 hours flying experience, was distracted by incoming text messages on his phone, while the first officer, of more than 4000 hours experience, was probably fatigued, the report said.

Official: texting while anything can not only kill you efficiently, it can take out hundreds of people right along with you.
